Saturday 10th of May, 2003, 18:00-21:00 pm.
One day event at “M+R place to fill”, 15A Kingsland Road, Hoxton, London, E8 2AA. Nearest tube Old Street.

24/7 is honoured to present a one-day event by Carlos Amorales. Amorales’ work examines identity, role-play and spectacle in the context of mexican popular culture. Using masks and costumes, he explores the extent to which it is possible to play out fantasy and swap identity through disguise and ritualized movement.

As a continuation of Amorales’ wrestling match to be performed in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall on Friday 9th of May at 19:30, Amorales will host a next day backstage meeting at “M+R place to fill”, where the public will be able to meet the wrestlers in person, get their autographs, buy some masks, learn some wrestling holds and be punched for free. World known singer Silverio, will make a special appearance as the event’s Master of Ceremony.

Carlos Amorales was born in Mexico City in 1970; he lives, loves and wrestles between Mexico City and Amsterdam. Recent solo exhibitions include: Fighting Evil (with Style) at the SFU Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa, 2002; Sympathy for the Devil at SKUC, Lubjana, 2002; and CABARET AMORALES, at Migros Museum, Zurich, 2001. Carlos Amorales will represent the Netherlands in the forthcoming Venice Art Biennale.

24/7 is a mobile and mutant low budget gallery which used to exhibit the work of young Latin American artists living in London and abroad while questioning the conventional clichés and representations of cultural production from Latin America. 24/7 now exhibits whatever, whenever, wherever.

24/7 Guacamole Nights continues every Monday from 19:00 PM to 23:00 PM at the George and Dragon Pub, 2 Hackney Road, London E2. Future guacamoles will be done by Stuart Comer, The Monclova Cowboys and House of Jazz among others.

Special thanks to Makin Ma, Rupert Blanchard and Jose Garcia Torres.
