24/7’s fourth exhibition features the work of Chilean artist Manuela Viera-Gallo. Viera-Gallo’s work makes the private public while making evident what society doesn’t want to see or acknowledge. For her exhibition at 24/7, Manuela Viera-Gallo will hang an enormous pink female underwear at the wall of 24/7. Manuela Viera-Gallo will travel from Chile with her panties in her luggage.
Manuela Viera-Gallo was born from Chilean parents in Rome in 1976, she lives and works in Santiago, Chile. In her more recent solo show “Cuantiosa” at Animal Gallery in Santiago she produced 150 paintings that questioned the mechanisms of art display and production. Viera-Gallo has also participated in group shows in Chile, Brasil and Salvador. In one of her most polemical works “Jose and Maria expelled”, a great format photography, she photographed her parents, public figures in Chile, in their underwear against an idyllic Chilean landscape. For another show, she produced a gigantic pink stuffed rabbit, a toy existing in a territory between the innocent and the monstrous.
24/7 is an exhibition platform working with young Latin American artists living in London and abroad whose work questions the conventional clichés and representations of cultural production from Latin America. Its main projects are the Wall Gallery and the Travelling Gallery. 24/7-Wall Gallery uses the exterior wall of a house located at the corner of Club Row and Redchurch Street in London’s East End as an exhibition site. The 24/7-Travelling Gallery takes place in different venues, galleries and specific locations.
There will be a bar in the garage during the opening.
